![]() Many say they have overcome the language barrier as non-English shows and movies are becoming more mainstream. ![]() ‘It’s more about the genre than language’ Most OTT platforms have multiple non-English shows and films. Mohammed Zeeshan, a Gurgaon resident, who started watching Spanish crime drama Narcos and Portuguese gangster show Dom during the lockdown, says, “Earlier, it was all niche content. But I have been able to sustain this only because so many titles are readily available across OTT platforms.” This is a sentiment that is shared by many new converts to international non-English content. I prefer rom-coms and romantic dramas more than other genres and I find that Korean shows and films do that genre great justice. That sucked me into a rabbit hole of Korean content. My tryst with Korean entertainment began randomly when I got a recommendation for Tune In For Love a couple of years ago. ![]() ![]() 27-year-old Kriti from Delhi, who is a Korean rom-com buff, says, “I had no idea about Korean cinema or shows. And most of them say it began due to a random recommendation of a non-English show or film on an OTT platform. ‘Came across international content after a random recommendation’įor many viewers, watching non-English content is a new thing that started over the last couple of years only.
